Anjo is right i guess, and be sure, a new ignition could make things a lot better in case of burnings in the distributioncap. Here you can buy them for about 15 euro's, that is about 20 us dollar i guess, that is whitout shipping, but i guess that would still be cheap if you would consider ordering them! The only thing is, you'll have to find a compagny that is prepered to ship them to the US!
I changed my ignition recently (including the spark plugs) and i'm already seeing the result! Sarting goes a lot easier, though i had a problem with my carb as well, and fixing that problem wasn't quite that easy, but again, if you are planning on reconditioning your weber, there is still a firm here that will send you the needed packaging papers and so on... Just ask around here on the forum, a lot of people know adresses for those parts.

I'm quite amazed by the way, you being on a dutch forum, can you understand anything from whats posted here in dutch?

Hallo Allemaal.... yeehaa!

I think right now Bob has to concentrate on getting a tune-up for the B-14 motor and maybe it will run smooth again. Of course the cold weather here does have something to do with the problems.

Groetjes,
Hans

Thanks for all the great tips and info. You guys speak great English (even you, John)! :D I wish I could make the same claim about speaking your tongue.

AvdAkker, I will follow your directions this weekend and report back.

Someone has told me that the Swedish market 340's had a water heated carb as well as a thermal grill blanket. Have you heard of this?

Here are a few pictures of the interior:

Bob let me drive the 343 during the summer when he came for a visit and I loved it. :yummie:

It would be nice to own one as well....we will see what happens next summer.

Als iemand een van weet die te koop is voor en goede prijs laat mij weten. Het zal natuurlijk en paar centjes kosten om het hier te brengen....

Hans (John)

Hans, Bob, welcome on the site. It's nice to see a few dutch cars made it across the big pond.

For tips on the 3 series that are found in ads, take a look at the interesting ads section of this forum.

Wow, the interior is even more beauty!

You know, the new front you have together with the old interior is very rare (made from august 1981 up to august 1982). Be careful with it!

Hi Bob,

Congratulations with the 343! that interior is in mint condition...
The front valance looks a bit worrying, though.

It is a rust-prone spot because of condensation and water creep-in. The part that rusts first is the lowest edge, where the front and back plate are welded together. It is advisable to flush the valance with boiling hot water (you can reach it through holes in the back, that are used in some models for mounting fog lights)
And apply a nice coat of ML tectyl on the inside when it has dried.

I see there already is a small rust spot right under the numberplate, perhaps some welding would be needed to keep things in shape in the longer run.

On another note; how does it work to register a car in your state, while such a vehicle has never been sold new in the United States? I know most of the DAF types have been sold in the USA, so this is no problem for those.
