Front dampers better than Koni!!!!

These are the pics of the car with the original strut and rubber top mounting.

I cut the spreder plates down from a 240 to go over the slotted holes





So how did the damper get into the 340 strut?

Well I had to bore out the top nut that holds the normal damper in. I used the outer casing from 240 GLT front mono tube


The oringinal spring top has had the bearing removed and a peice of tube welded in its place

I have since updated the design of the strut top to allow fdirect fitment with no need to drill the body.

Looks very nice dai! If I understand it correctly, you did use 240 dampers? Do you know how many degrees caster you can adjust?

only the casing from teh 240 glt damper is used. I hade to cut it down quite a bit to get it to fit in. The damper is of unknown origin but I could get more made the same but this would be evry expensive.

340cbr the damper inserts are Bilstein but other mono tube dampers could be used

The dampers would be about ?300 the pair and you need to change to the solid strut tops ?100 so the total cost would eb around ?400 to do the job + you would have to source a casing and mod teh original strut.

I bought me my Front Koni's for ?30!
So they have to be 20 times as good as Koni's to make up for the costs...

It is a lot of cash for a pair of front dampers but they are way better than gas twin tube dampers. If any of you are into 240 you will understand the difference from a base model car to a GLT for cornering.

In fairness 30 euros is very cheep for a pair of dampers even std oil ones new cost more than that so not a fair comparison. New Koni's would cost near 450 euros I would think. Also keep in mind some of teh cost is the bearing strut top mount. The bearing mounts are much better than rubber ones for three resons 1) improved location and constant suspension geometry 2) camber adjustability 3) lighter steering. I have found since fitting the adjustable bearing strut tops the steering is a little lighter so that is a nice bonus. The bearing tops can be used with std dampers.
